Abstract

At the Bibliotèque Nationale de Paris, in the volume V of the Poésies popularies de la France, Fond français, nauvelles acquisitions, number 3.342, there is a Basque text written by Jean Baptiste Archu; together with this document we find a translation into French and a further note also in French. In this work, besides emphasizing the authenticity of the Basque oral ballad trasncribed by Archu. I try to find style equivalents in other Basque ballads an explain some ortographics features together with some features of the Basque variety used in the text. To his end, I will first offer an introduction to the Basque oral ballad, and then make some notes, arranged by content and shape. By means of these explanatory notes it will become apparent that the beauty and richness of the text are far from being thoroughly studied.
