Abstract
[EN] The present paper is a proposal to reflect on the problematic presented by the translation of humorous texts or fragments, as not only professional translators but also teachers of foreign languages are at some point confronted to this situation. After a first approach to the term “humor” and its etymology, and a second part about mechanisms and types of humor based on examples in different languages, the central part of this contribution is analyzing problems and solutions given to different examples of translated humorous texts. Successful translation of humorous texts is understood as the decoding of humorous discourse in its original context, as transfer of this original discourse into a different linguistic and cultural context and as the reformulating of a new discourse not only capturing and producing the same intention of the original humorous discourse but also provoking an equivalent playful and comic response.
