Etiopía: autocracia y revolución. Auge y fracaso del Afro-Marxismo (1974-1991).

Abstract

[ES] Mediante este trabajo se pretende revisar la evolución del movimiento político revolucionario denominado “Afro-marxismo” que tuvo lugar en Etiopía en un período comprendido entre 1974 y 1991. En primer término se hará mención al contexto histórico y geopolítico del país para así entender las causas del nacimiento de este movimiento y su evolución. Al comienzo del proceso revolucionario, se destaca la importancia que tuvieron diversos grupos de estudiantes e intelectuales del país indignados por la mala gestión económica, política y administrativa del Emperador Hailé Selassie, reivindicando con sus protestas un cambio de sistema de gobierno. En 1977, se consolida la Revolución Etíope y aquí se hará referencia a las dinámicas que dieron paso al establecimiento de un régimen de ideología marxista-leninista. A continuación, se hará hincapié en los procesos políticos y administrativos internos que tuvieron lugar en el país hasta una década después del comienzo de la revolución. Así mismo se explicará el cambio del sistema económico, haciendo especial mención a la reforma agraria que tuvo gran repercusión en un país donde la gran mayoría de la población se dedicaba al sector primario. También se analizará la política exterior del gobierno etíope en el territorio del Cuerno de África, una política caracterizada por ser centralista y a favor de la unión del territorio y que no cedió ante reivindicaciones nacionales como la de Eritrea o el Pueblo del Tigré, causando así una sucesión de conflictos acentuados por la intervención soviética a favor del régimen etíope. En este contexto se explica el declive del gobierno revolucionario etíope debido a una mala gestión de asuntos tanto internos como externos desapareciendo en 1991, con la entrada de tropas insurgentes en la capital del país que se apresuraron a mantener un control militar sobre Etiopía, mientras un gobierno provisional decidía el futuro del país.

[EN] Through this assignment it is intended to make a review about the revolutionary movement called Afro-Marxism which has its origins in Ethiopia since 1974 to 1991. First of all the historical and geopolitical context is going to be mentioned in order to understand the causes of the beginning of this movement and its evolution. At the beginning of the revolutionary process it is highlighted the importance of the active taking part of many students, teachers and intellectuals in the country when protesting against the troubled political, administrative and economical management of Emperor Haile Selassie claiming a new governing system. In 1997, the Ethiopian Revolution is settled, thus, analysing the dynamics that led to the establishment of a Marxist-Leninist ideology regime. Right after, the administrative and inner political processes are going to be analysed which happened a decade after the revolution started, additionally mentioning the change of economic system with a special mention to the land reform that had a great impact in a country where the majority of the population worked in the primary sector. Also, the outer politics of Ethiopian government that took place in the Horn of Africa territory are going to be explained, politics characterized by being centralist and in favour of the territorial unity which did not abate to national vindication by the Eritrean and Tigray People causing a great divisiveness, which was improved by the Soviet intervention in favour of Ethiopian regime. In this context the revolutionary government collapses due to a bad management of inner and outer issues disappearing in 1991 with the entrance of insurgent troops in the capital who guaranteed the military control over Ethiopia while a provisional government decided the country´s future.
