[ES] La Enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) es un trastorno neurodegenerativo, caracterizado por una disminución progresiva de las funciones cognitivas. Los datos epidemiológicos describen un incremento de su incidencia con la edad, duplicándose cada 5 años después de los 65. En las últimas décadas, se ha planteado que otros factores de riesgo para su desarrollo, tal y como son las enfermedades metabólicas, pueden estar influyendo en el aumento de su incidencia en la población general. Entre ellas, la Diabetes Mellitus tipo II (DM2), constituye uno de los principales problemas de salud afectando a millones de personas en todo el mundo, viéndose incrementada su prevalencia en consonancia con el aumento de la obesidad.
