Tan lejos, tan cerca: el Gobierno Vasco en Barcelona y las complejas relaciones entre el nacionalismo vasco y el catalán

Abstract

La cohabitación del Gobierno Vasco, hegemonizado por el Partido Nacionalista, y de la Generalitat hasta la caída de Cataluña en febrero de 1939 se realizó bajo el signo de una gran cercanía política, la que fue una de las condiciones que permitió a Aguirre y sus consejeros realizar una labor que desde la distancia histórica no deja de ser impresionante. El traslado a la capital catalana resultó atractivo también porque escenificaba perfectamente uno de los ejes del discurso nacionalista, a saber, el discurso de la solidaridad entre las naciones periféricas en su lucha por mayores cotas de autogobierno. Sin embargo, ampliando el foco analítico, el artículo revela que esta imagen de la sintonía y solidaridad propagada por los nacionalistas vascos contrasta con otros periodos de incomprensión, lejanía y recelos antes y después de 1938/39. En definitiva, el artículo pretende demostrar que detrás de la fachada del discurso oficial del nacionalismo vasco se escondía una realidad mucho más compleja y contradictoria.; The cohabitation of the Basque Government, hegemonized by the Nationalist Party, and the Generalitat until the fall of Catalonia in February 1939, was carried out under the sign of a great political proximity. This was one of the conditions that allowed Aguirre and his councillors to realize a work that, looked upon from the distance of history, can really be considered impressive. The move to the Catalan capital was also attractive, because it reproduced perfectly one of the core elements of the nationalist discourse, that is, the discourse about the solidarity between the nations of the periphery in their struggle for higher levels of self-government. Yet, widening the analytic focus, the article reveals that this image of harmony and solidarity launched by the Basque nationalists stood in contrast with other periods of incomprehension, distance and suspicion before and after 1938/39. Concluding, the article pretends to show that behind the façade of the official discourse of Basque nationalism a much more complex and contradictory reality was hidden.
