Prender fuego a la matriz: El fuego y la llama como herramienta de creación de matrices en la gráfica contemporánea

Abstract

Fire as a dichotomic element (it creates and it destroys) plays a fundamental role in every artistic area, being the starting point of experimental processes in almost every creative discipline. The intention of this article is to analize the importance of the fire and the relation the human being has with it, contextualizing in a superficial way the emergence of this fascination, and also to talk about how to develop the use of this element on the creation of etching plates amongst the experimental processes in the on-paper graphic art nowadays. We will also briefly mention a personal selection of artists related to this technique or to similar ones, beggining with the performative action of fire-printing , and finishing with the physical aspect of melting the plate in order to archieve a print; El fuego como elemento dicotómico creador-destructor juega un papel importante en todos los ámbitos artísticos, propiciando procesos experimentales de gran interés en prácticamente todas las disciplinas creativas. En este texto se pretende analizar por un lado, la importancia del fuego y de la relación del ser humano para con él, contextualizando de forma superficial el surgimiento de esta fascinación, para después hablar de cómo es posible aplicar ese elemento a la creación de matrices calcográficas dentro del marco de las técnicas experimentales en la gráfica sobre papel. Se mencionará también de forma breve a una selección personal de artistas que hayan trabajado esta técnica o similares, partiendo desde la estampación performática del fuego hasta el trabajo físico del fundido de la matriz mediante soplete para la posterior obtención de estampas.
