Abstract

Hasta la creación, en 1849, de los inspectores de instrucción primaria, transcurrieron varios siglos en los que la progresiva implantación de escuelas de primeras letras conllevó la intervención de distintos agentes, sucesivamente conocidos como veedores, visitadores, examinadores e inspectores, que constituyen los antecedentes históricos de la inspección educativa. En este trabajo se documentan, pormenorizadamente, desde los más remotos y no siempre fidedignos, correspondientes al reinado de Enrique II (1369-1379), hasta los que figuran en disposiciones reales posteriores y promulgadas de conformidad con las primigenias. De tal modo que puedan apuntarse identidades precursoras de la Inspección de Educación en España.; Leading to the creation of the primary instruction inspectors in 1849, a number of centuries went by in which the foundation of primary instruction schools led to the display of a number of educational agents, known by very descriptive names such as “seers” (as in those who go to see what is being done), “visitors”, examiners (those who go to test knowledge) and inspectors. These are the historical ancestors of today’s school inspectors. In this work, we document in detail from the earliest, but not always accurate, predecessors in times of Henry II of Castile (1369-1379) up to other royal legal regulations which came out later, but they kept the spirit of the previous ones.The aim of this work is to identify the origin of the substantial character of the School Inspectorate System in Spain.
