Video Tutorial Series-Basic Concepts in Natural Phonology. Sixth video: Natural Phonology and Language Variation.
Díaz Romero, Camilo Enrique
This is an English adaptation of six video tutorials originally called "Serie Vídeos tutoriales‐conceptos básicos en Fonología Natural" in Spanish. It could be used in basic phonological courses. I present some of the basic concepts of Natural Phonology, a theory proposed, in modern version, by Patricia Donegan and David Stampe (University of Hawaii at Manoa): the phonological processes, classified by context-dependence (contextual and acontextual) and functions (prosodic, lenitive and fortitive), the phoneme, the mor(pho)phonological rules and the influence of this theory in researching language variation.
