¿Qué hay de nuestro aquí? Cómo se perciben en los medios algunas minorías residentes en Cataluña

Abstract

What of us is in this? was a research project sponsored by the Catalan Audiovisual Council which was carried out in 2006. Its main purpose was to collect the views of Catalonia-resident Arabs (mostly North-African), Gypsies and Romanians on both the local media (either Catalan or Spanish) and the way they their cultural groups are represented in them. All the people that took part in this research were fully aware of the kind of media representation they are subjected to and believed this made them invisible in a sense, and labeled them as (and reduced their identity to) being merely immigrants. On top of this conscious and critical reading of media messages (and regardless of their education level, their gender, their age or their ethnic background), research participants emphasized how important this distorted representation is as it poses a genuine pitfall for their social participation.; El proyecto ¿Qué hay de nuestro aquí?, financiado por el Consejo del Audiovisual de Cataluña, y desarrollado en 2006, tuvo como principal objetivo recoger la opinión que los árabes, los gitanos y los rumanos residentes en Cataluña tienen de los medios de comunicación y de la forma en que sus colectivos aparecen representados en ellos. Todas las personas que han participado en la investigación son muy conscientes de la representación mediática de la que son objeto y creen que ésta los invisibiliza y los etiqueta y que, además, reduce su identidad a su condición de inmigrantes. Añadida a esta lectura consciente y crítica de los mensajes mediáticos (y con independencia del nivel de estudios, el género, la edad o la etnia), dan mucha importancia a esta representación distorsionada porque supone una barrera para su participación social.; Zer dago gutaz hemen? izenburupean Kataluniako Ikusentzunezko Kontseiluaren dirulaguntzaz 2006.an garatutako ikerketa honen helburu nagusia zera izan da, arabiarrek, ijitoek eta errumaniarrek komunikabideei buruz eta beren taldeen irudikapenei buruz duten iritziak biltzea. Ikerketan parte hartu duten pertsona guztiak duten irudikapen mediatikoaren jakitun daude, eta beren iritziz, irudikapen horrek ikustezin bihurtu eta etiketatu egiten ditu, eta beren identitatea inmigrantea izatearekin lotzen du huts-hutsik.
