De la tradición clásica a la modernidad: Píramo y Tisbe y Romeo y Julieta

Abstract

[ES] El objetivo de este trabajo es el estudio de las apropiaciones y reelaboraciones de los textos de Ovidio que traspasan los límites del lugar, el idioma y el género, así como el tiempo. A lo largo del trabajo se explica la transmisión de Píramo y Tisbe de las Metamorfosis en Romeo y Julieta como ejemplo paradigmático de las apropiaciones y reelaboraciones. Se explica cómo la obra de Ovidio- un autor que no encajaba en el canon augústeo- y, en particular, este relato ha tenido tanto éxito en la tradición y en la literatura moderna, cómo ha llegado a Shakespeare, hasta qué punto tenía este conocimiento sobre los clásicos y de qué manera ha usado ese conocimiento a la hora de escribir una de sus tragedias más famosas. Se ofrece una panorámica base de esa transmisión y particularmente de cómo esta tuvo lugar en la dramaturgia isabelina. Por lo tanto, proporciona un amplio barrido temporal en occidente desde los tiempos de Ovidio hasta los de Shakespeare. Para ello se han utilizado diferentes artículos, manuales, etc. El resultado de la investigación ha dejado constancia de que Shakespeare sí que usó otras fuentes para adaptar historias previamente contadas y que se basó en una serie de textos origen para adaptarlos a su obra. Romeo y Julieta es el resultado de una tradición anterior y se ve reflejado en los elementos similares que aparecen con el mito de Píramo y Tisbe. Teniendo esto en cuenta, se podrían realizar investigaciones adicionales para identificar otros factores a tener en cuenta a la hora de conocer el origen de muchas de las obras de época isabelina. Este es el resultado del prestigio en la antigüedad, la influencia del humanismo renacentista y el carácter del currículo educativo de la época isabelina. Por lo tanto, es de gran utilidad para ver la influencia de la tradición clásica en las literaturas posteriores de occidente.

[EN] The aim of this work is the study of the appropriations and reworkings of Ovid's texts that go beyond the limits of place, language and gender, as well as time. Throughout the work the transmission of Pyramus and Thisbe of the Metamorphoses in Romeo and Juliet is explained as a paradigmatic example of the appropriations and reworkings. It explains how the work of Ovid - an author who did not fit in the augusteo canon - and, in particular, this story has been so successful in tradition and in modern literature, how has arrived to Shakespeare, to what extent he had this knowledge about the classics and how he has used that knowledge when writing one of his most famous tragedies. It offers a panoramic view of this transmission and particularly how it took place in the Elizabethan theater. Therefore, it provides a broad sweep of time in the West from the time of Ovid until Shakespeare. For this, different articles, manuals, etc. have been used. The result of the investigation has shown that Shakespeare did use other sources to adapt previously told stories and that he relied on a series of source texts to adapt them to his work. Romeo and Juliet is the result of a previous tradition and is reflected in the similar elements that appear with the myth of Piramus and Thisbe. With this in mind, additional research could be carried out to identify other factors to be taken into account when knowing the origin of many Elizabethan works. This is the result of prestige in antiquity, the influence of Renaissance humanism and the character of the Elizabethan educational curriculum. Therefore, it is very useful to see the influence of the classical tradition in the later literatures of the West.
