Brittle fracture is a failure that occurs with barely prior plastic deformation and instantly. It is not
as common as fatigue or ductile collapses. Traditional theories of failure such as Von Mises or Tresca
do not explain this kind of cases: Fracture Mechanics is responsible for them. In this work several
cases of Fracture Mechanics are analyzed, covering mode I, mode II and mixed mode I and II. Stress
Intensity Factor (SIF) is calculated for each case, applying: theorical expressions on the one hand,
and Finite Element models on the other hand. Moreover, it is explained crack modeling and its
influence on the mesh process. Finally, obtained results for the SIF are presented, making a
comparison between those from theorical expressions and those from Finite Element, to close the
work with the conclusions. This thesis may be helpful, among other areas, in order to estimate crack
propagation, as SIF is a basic parameter for that purpose. Haustura hauskorra da bat-batean eta ia deformazio plastiko gabe jazotzen den hutsegitea. Ez da
hain arrunta neke edo harikor motako hutsegiteekin konparatuz. Ohiko hutsegite teoriek, Von Mises
edo Tresca esaterako, ez dituzte kolapso horiek azaltzen: Frakturaren Mekanika arduratzen da. Lan
honetan Frakturaren Mekanikako zenbait kasu aztertzen dira, modu I, modu II eta modu misto I eta
II barne hartuz. Kasu bakoitzerako kalkulatu egiten da tentsio intentsite faktorea, metodo ezberdinak
baliatuz: alde batetik formula teorikoak, eta bestetik Elementu Finituko modeloak erabiliz. Halaber,
pitzadura nola definitu behar den eta bere eragina sare prozesuan azaldu egiten da. Azkenik, tentsio
intentsitate faktorerako lortu diren emaitzak erakusten dira, alderatuz formula teorikoek emandako
baloreak eta Elementu Finituen bitartekoak; eta amaitzeko ondorioak aurkezten dira. Lan hau
lagungarria izan daiteke, adibidez, pitzadura propagazioa estimatzeko, tentsio intentsitate faktorea
oinarrizko parametro bat baita arlo horretan.
