Prácticas tradicionales perjudiciales: la mutilación genital femenina

Abstract

[ES]La mutilación genital femenina se realiza en diferentes etnias de todo el mundo, pero sobre todo es más visible en ciertos lugares de África. Se trata de una práctica ancestral que consiste en cortar los genitales externos femeninos. Aunque carece de beneficios para la salud, sus practicantes la justifican a través de una serie de razones que discriminan a la mujer. En la mayoría de casos, las víctimas son sometidas a este ritual cuando son menores de edad. El presente trabajo se centra en las razones por las que prevalece la tradición a día de hoy, y las graves consecuencias que acarrea para la salud y la vida de las víctimas. A parte de eso, se han tenido en cuenta las herramientas tanto a nivel estatal, en el Estado Español, como a nivel internacional a través de Tratados, Convenios y Pactos en materia de Derechos Humanos.

[EN]Female genital mutilation is performed in different ethnic groups around the world, but it is especially common in certain areas of Africa. It is a traditional practice that consists of cutting the female external genitalia. Although it lacks any form of health benefits, its practitioners justify it through a series of reasons that discriminate women. In most cases, the victims are forced to participate in this ritual when they are minors This research focuses on why the practice prevails to this day, and the serious consequences it brings to the health and life of the victims. Apart from that, this investigation has taken into account mechanisms both at the state level, in the Spanish State and at the international level through Treaties, Agreements and Pacts in the field of Human Rights to come to a conclusion.
