Influencia del ejercicio físico durante el embarazo
Abstract
[EN] Physical exercise during pregnancy is beneficial for both the mother and the fetus, so there is a need
to develop training plans that encourage its practice. However, there is often a reduction in the
practice of physical exercise during this period in a woman's life. The decrease in this practice during
pregnancy is usually due to social beliefs such as the contraindication of its practice on the health of
the woman and the fetus, which raises the question of whether practicing physical exercise plays a
beneficial role in pregnancy. Therefore, the aim of this study was to provide the existing evidence
between physical exercise and its effects on pregnancy.
A literature review was carried out in the PubMed database following the PRISMA criteria. The search
strategy consisted of using the descriptors "physical activity" AND "pregnancy". A total of 12 articles
were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Although the studies analyzed showed some contradictory data, they seem to indicate that there is
no linear relationship between the practice of physical exercise and the indicators studied in this
review. Most of them found that physical exercise did not prevent weight gain during pregnancy
(WGW) or gestational diabetes mellitus, nor did it prevent birth weight of the offspring. However,
analysis of weight gain during pregnancy over time resulted in a significant reduction.
Nevertheless, more long-term studies are needed to address the relationship between the effects of
physical exercise and pregnancy, as well as the different parameters involved. This will provide better
tools to recommend the practice of physical exercise associated with benefits during pregnancy.
